Fallen Order guide: All Life Essence upgrade locations (2022)

In this Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order guide, we’ll show you how to find every Life Essence secret on Bogano, Zeffo, Kashyyyk, Dathomir, and [spoiler]. You’ll get a boost to your health bar for every three you pick up, so the 12 secrets below will earn you four upgrades.

There are two Life Essence secrets on Bogano. You can get the first pretty early (you just have to fight a giant Oggdo Bogdo to get it), but the second will have to wait until you have a late-game power whose (arguably spoilery) name we’ll use in its section below.

Bogdo Sinkholes Life Essence

When you reach the Bogdo Sinkholes, take a right and walk along the pipe. Instead of slowing the fan and going through it, follow the right path until you reach a cave. Here you’ll find a secret that the Oggdo Bogdo is guarding.

Oggdo Bogdo is very difficult to defeat at the beginning of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. You can always return later. In fact, you should probably leave Bogano, explore Zeffo, and return. That’s what we did.

If you’ve fought one of these giant frogs before, Oggdo Bogdo isn’t too different, but it is a lot more difficult. Just keep an eye on your health, dodge its attacks, and slice at its sides. When it’s dead, grab the Life Essence behind it.

Subterranean Refuge Life Essence

After you’ve gotten Jedi flip, return to the room in the Subterranean Refuge where you learned the wall run all those hours ago. There’s a narrow, muddy slope with runnable walls ahead of you. Use the wall run and Jedi flip together to climb the slope.

When you reach the top, turn around and stay level, wall running yet again. When you reach the platform, swing over to the far passageway and you’ll find the Life Essence.

There are five Life Essence secrets to find on Zeffo. You can only get the first one below without having late-game abilities.

Gusty Bluffs Life Essence secret

During the first round of fans, slow the fan so you can reach the highest bluff. (If you look closely, there’s a meditation circle here.)

Instead of dropping down, take the path right and up into another fan puzzle. Slow them just like last time, and you’ll find some secret tunnels leading to a Life Essence.

Augur pulverizers Life Essence secret

When you exit the tunnel after dodging through all the eponymous pulverizers, look left and you’ll see a bunch of poles sticking out of the ground.

Walk up to them, and look down to see a pulverizer. Slow it and jump down onto it. While it’s slowed, slow the one next to it. Sprint and jump at the last moment to reach the next pulverizer, then do it again. This is much safer with the Jedi flip, as the distance between the pulverizers is barely jumpable by default. If you make it to the end, you can grab a Life Essence secret.

Crash Site Life Essence secret

At the Crash Site, look for a crashed fighter to the right of the lake you initially jump into. There’s a rope here, leading up to a small opening. Climb up and use BD-1 to overcharge the panel. Three pulverizers will start. Time your use of slow to stop the pulverizers and climb to the top. Grab the Life Essence secret.

Venator Life Essence secret

Climb the Venator wreckage in the Crash Site, and follow the left path through a giant tube to find a Life Essence upgrade.

There is one Life Essence secret to collect on Kashyyyk. You’ll be able to pick it up on your first visit.

Overgrown Pass Life Essence secret

After you work your way through the Overgrown Pass, you’ll head back to the Imperial Refinery. Right where you use Force push to knock down a pipe and create a walkway, this secret is on your left.

There are two Life Essence secrets to find on Dathomir. You can grab the first one early, but the second will need to wait until you have a (slightly) later-game ability that we’ll name in its section.

Brother’s Bastion Life Essence secret

You’ll be able to reach this secret without special Force powers, but you will need to be survive the fights with the Nightbrothers on the way to Brother’s Bastion. Head along the tunnel to the right of the workbench. Climb up the wall at the end, and you’ll find this secret on a ledge outside.

Strangled Cliffs Life Essence secret

  • Look for this Force push-able box. Respawn Entertainment/Electronic Arts via Polygon

  • Climb the vines around the wall to reach the secret (and unlock the door). Respawn Entertainment/Electronic Arts via Polygon

To reach this secret, you’ll technically need to start in the Upper Strangled Cliffs. Walk along the narrow walkway away from the Mantis until you’re just past the locked door on your left. Turn left and look for a Force pushable box. (This step is the first two images in the gallery above.)

Push the box back into the room there two times, until it reaches the back. Then, push it to the left so it falls into the hallway below.

Push the box two more times until it reaches the doorway end of the hall. Climb on top, and use the vines(?) to climb up and around the wall. You’ll drop off the other side behind the locked door (that you can unlock from this side), right next to this secret.

There are two Life Essence secrets to find on the fifth planet you visit. You’ll have all of your Force abilities by the time your reach this planet, so you can grab them both on your first visit.

Crystal Cave Life Essence secret

When you reach the meditation circle on the far side of the Crystal Cave, you’ll only have one direction to head. Follow the path away, and you’ll come to a fork. Take the left fork, use the ropes and wall run panels to reach a climbable ice wall. Climb up and to the right. Use the beams there to reach this secret. From here, you’ll return to where the path forked.

When you’ve completed your task in the Crystal Cave (and after a quick trip to the Imperial Trench), return to the meditation circle. Head to the left again, and slice through the icicle wall. Follow the path on the other side. After a bunch of wall running and sliding, you’ll come to this secret. (This is in the area below the meditation circle.)
